    Shiyan is an automibile city, built up with the development of antomobile industry.It is the hometown of "Dong Feng Motor" , known as " Oriental Detroit ",a city that boasts greenery mountain, tourism and well-protected ecology.
    With a long history and splendid culture, Shiyan is an important birthplace of Chinese nation.In 1991, two intact pithecanthrope skull fossils explored by archaeologists at the Quyuan River of Yunxian, were named "Yunxian Man".The archaeologists believed that this discovery filled in the vacancy of the development of Asian human "roller chain". It was ranked as the top of "ten great discoveries of archaeological studies of the world " of that year.The current name "Shiyan" of the urban area, originated from the ten dams built in Qing Dynasty, on the Baier River and Jiang River for irritation.Shiyan is the origin of Taoism and " Wudang Martial Arts". Wudang Taoism has already had a history of thousands of years.Wudang ancient architectural complex has been listed into the world heritage by the UNESCO.
    Shiyan accounts for 1/8 of Hubei province in area,featured with abundant water and mineral resources. Wudang , holy land of Taoism , listed in the world cultural heritage and titled as four-A grade tourism zone.Danjiangkou Reservoir, crowned as the first largest man-made lake in Asia,is the homeland of dinosaur with concentrated dinosaur eggs and skeletons fossil.And the site of ape in Yunxian, holds hot spring,waterfall,gorge,cave.     Shiyan is the water source of "South-North Water Diversion"project.The border of Danjiangkou Reservior and Shiyan is the water source of the middle line of the Project.The implemention of the project will supply water to four provinces and cities including Beijing,Tianjin,Hebei adn Henan. With the construction of the project,Shiyan will encounter new opportunities.
    Shiyan is an ecological barrier.Thanks to the joint of Mt.Qinling and Mt.ba, forming up a georgraphical climate boundary, preventing the occurrence of sand storm as well as acid rain from South to North.Therefore, Shiyan is an ecological conditioner and heart of China.

    The next economic development strategy is to construct a traffic passage that links up the Eastern with Western part of China,building Shiyan into a metropolitan automobile industry base and establishing Han River-Du River hydropower industrial zone.And Shiyan is expecting to set up a golden tourism circle that connects Northwest with Southwest of the country and develop into a key district of western ecoligical economy of Hubei province so as to drive Shiyan become an inportant growth pole with distinct characteristic.
